Great Bend Cross Country Teams Battle Against Tough Competition at Bishop Carroll Invitational

The Great Bend High School girls ad boys cross country teams had an outstanding showing Saturday at the Bishop Carroll Invitational, competing against some of the top teams in the state.

The Great Bend girls finished third overall, falling only to Wichita Bishop Carroll (No. 2 in the state) and Wichita Kapaun-Mount Carmel (No. 3 in the state).

The Great Bend boys tinished seventh, competing against a loaded field that included the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 ranked teams in Class 5A as well as the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A.

Great Bend’s Decorah Schroeter finished second overall and once again lowered her school 5K record, posting a time of 18 minutes, 10 seconds.

Sydney Stein finished 10th in the varsity girls 5K race and earned a medal. Brogan Lashley finished 10th in the varsity boys 5K race and earned a medal.

Of Great Bend’s 16 runners, 14 either recorded a new personal record (PR) or ran a season-best time.
