Sterling, Andale Top State Football Rankings; No. 1 Andale Faces No. 2 Cheney Friday

The Sterling Black Bears and Andale Indians, defending Class 1A and 3A state champions, are ranked No. 1 in 1A and 3A in the latest Kansas Football Coaches Association poll released on Wednesday.

In Class 1A, Sterling is No. 1, followed by Thomas More Prep-Marian, Inman, Smith Center and Rossville.

In Class 3A, Andale is No. 1, followed by Cheney, Hesston, Holcomb and Santa Fe Trail.

Cheney hosts Andale Friday in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown. In 2023, Cheney defeated Andale twice to end Andale’s 57-game winning streak (including four straight state titles).

The two teams did not play in 2025. Andale defeated Cheney 52-14 in 2024.

Sabetha is No. 1 in Class 2A, followed by Silver Lake, Council Grove, Garden Plain and Osage City.

Shawnee Mission Bishop Miege is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, followed by Overland Park-St. Thomas Aquinas, Great Bend and Louisburg. McPherson and Mulvane are tied for fifth place.

Wichita Kapaun Mount-Carmel is ranked first in Class 5A, followed by Lenexa-St. James Academy, Hays High, DeSoto and Wichita Bishop Carroll.

Mill Valley is No. 1 in Class 6A, followed by Derby, Manhattan, Gardner-Edgerton and Blue Valley Northwest.
