The Kansas State High School Activities Association is changing its cross country postseason format in 2026, replacing traditional regional meets with sub-state competition.

Each classification will have two sub-state sites, with each site hosting two seeded boys races and two seeded girls races. The top three teams and top 15 individual finishers in each race will qualify for the state championships.

The new format maintains four state-qualifying races for boys and girls in each classification while consolidating competition at two sites instead of four separate regional locations.

Sub-state meets are scheduled for Oct. 24, followed by the state championships Oct. 31.
