The Ellinwood Eagles volleyball team, the defending Kansas Class 2A state champion and ranked No. 1 in 2A this season, won the Lyons Tournament Saturday.
The Eagles defeated Little River, winners of four straight Class 1A Division I state titles, in the championship match.
Ellinwood improved its 2026 season record to 21-0 and extends their two-year winning streak to 68 in a row.
In other volleyball tournament action Saturday:
• The Cheney Cardinals placed second in the Cheney Red and Blue Volleyball Classic Saturday with a 4-1 record and improved to 26-3.
Cheney defeated Haven 25-8, 25-18, Pratt 25-20, 25-7, Wellington 25-15, 25-16 and Wichita Collegiate 25-15, 25-8 and lost to Hesston 21-25, 25-13, 25-17.
• The Hoisington High School volleyball ream captured the Cardinal Classic with a 5-0 record.
The Cardinals have won four straight Cardinal Classic titles.
Hoisington defeated St. John 25-13, 25-16, Phillipsburg 15-12, 25-5, Central Plains 25-18, 25-12, Otis-Bison 25-4, 25-7 and Smith Center 25-22, 25-14.
Smith Center, St. John and Phillipsburg each posted 3-2 records, Central Plains went 1-4 and Otis-Bison went 0-5.
• The Andale High School varsity volleyball team captured the Newton Tournament with a 25-12, 25-9 victory over Goddard Eisenhower 25-12, 25-19 in the title match,
The Andale freshman team defeated Great Bend 25-18, 23-25, 15-12 to win the Buhler tournament.
• The Hillsboro High School volleyball team won the Douglass Tournament Saturday. The Trojans defeated El Dorado, Douglass and Bluestem in pool play and then defeated Winfield and Garden Plain in bracket play to win the championship.
Hillsboro’s Mylee Funk and Amyah Werth made the All-Tournament team.
• The Goessel High School varsity volleyball team finished first at the Olpe Tournament and the junior varsity placed third at the Olpe JV Tournament.
• The Reno County Homeschool Sabres varsity volleyball team won a 5-set, 2 1/2 hour thriller over the Hutchinson Central Christian Cougars this morning.
The Sabres junior varsity also brought home a win.
The Sabres teams travel to Salina to take on Manhattan CHIEF next week.
