Rain was part of the story Friday night, but missed opportunities and costly mistakes will likely draw Buhler’s attention when the Crusaders review the film.
For the second consecutive week, Buhler moved the ball effectively on the ground but too often failed to turn that production into points. After an early Crusader drive ended in a turnover, Great Bend scored and never relinquished the lead.
Buhler tailback Landon Martinez carried 21 times for 196 yards and a touchdown but also fumbled twice in the wet conditions. Quarterback Asher Zachary completed 10 of 23 passes for 157 yards and threw two interceptions.
The Crusaders showed improvement defensively, led by Gabe Edmund and Nixons Standlee with 8 and 6b tackles respectively, with but it wasn’t enough to overcome the miscues. A bright spot on the night was the excellent special teams play of Dylan Scripsick.
Buhler travels to Towanda next week to face Circle.
