Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team jumped into the national rankings for the first time in three seasons on Monday.
In their first match since, the No. 20-ranked Blue Dragons hit better than .300 for the fourth time this season in a 3-0 Jayhawk Conference sweep of the Pratt Beavers on Wednesday at the Sports Arena. The Dragons won 21-8, 25-21, 25-15.
The Blue Dragons improved to 13-8 overall and 5-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. Hutchinson travels to play Garden City on Saturday.
Hutchinson defeated Pratt for the 33rd consecutive match.
The Blue Dragons hit .302 with 42 kills on 96 attacks on Wednesday night. Eleven different Hutchinson players had kills led by sophomore Lauren Vasquez‘s nine kills on .353 hitting.
Julia Macedo hit .211 with eight kills, five digs and two service aces. Giovanna Monteiro finished with five kills and Ellie Prather had four kills.
Setter Klaudia Bilinksa had 21 assists with eight digs and two kills. Luisa Richa had six assists.
Sophomore libero had 12 digs to lead the Dragons, who out-dug Pratt 47-29.
Victoria Hepburn had nine kills to lead Pratt, which was held to .080 hitting.
SET 1: The Blue Dragons dominated the opening set hitting .542 with 14 kills and only one error on 24 attacks. The Dragons jumped out to leads of 6-1 and 10-2 and built a 10-point advantage of 13-3 after a Vasquez ace serve. A Bilinksa setter dump for a kill, a Macedo kill, a double block from Addison Hansen and Bilinksa and a Monteiro kill helped the Dragons to a 17-4 lead. Kills from Hansen, Macedo and Vasquez got the Dragons to set point. A Pratt violation closed out the set, winning 25-8. Pratt hit .038 in the set.
SET 2: A Bilinksa ace serve gave the Blue Dragons an early 7-3 lead. The Beavers tied the set at 12 and the Dragons responded with a 3-0 run, taking a 15-12 lead on a Prather kill. The Dragons hit .118 in the second set. A Vasquez kill upped the lead to 20-17 and a Macedo kill bumped that lead to 22-19.
SET 3: The Dragons hit .367 in the third set on 14 kills. A Monteiro ace gave the Dragons a 4-1 lead, but Pratt rallied to lead 5-4, 7-5 and 10-9. Tied at 11-11, the Blue Dragons went on a 7-0 run and led 18-11 after a Kennedy Greene kill. Another Greene kill upped the lead to 21-12.
