The Elyria Christian Eagles’ first-year six-man football team lost to Peabody-Burns 52-6 Thursday night at McPherson.
It was the Eagles’ first home game in school. It was played at the school’s campus athletic field.
The football program took over the site previously used by the soccer program, which was disbanded in 2022.
“What a night getting to host our first home game, witness an amazing crowd, energetic students and a team who continues to show improvements despite having to compete against top ranked teams early in the season,” said a posting on the Elyria Christian School Facebook page. “A huge thank you to everyone who made tonight possible.”
It was the second loss in three weeks for the Eagles against the Warriors this season. In Week 1 at Peabody, the Warriors defeated the Eagles 54-7.
In Week 2, the Eagles (0-3) lost to Chetopa 38-32 in overtime. Peabody-Burns (2-1) lost to Tescott 47-0 in Week 2.
Elyria Christian hosts Moscow next Friday and Peabody-Burns hosts Southern Coffey County (LeRoy).
The Eagles host Southern Coffey County in Week 5 on Oct. 1 and the Warriors host Altoona-Midway on Oct. 2.
