Iola, Kansas — Allen Community College and USD 257 have signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow the college to utilize space at the Rural Regional Technical Center for its Commercial Driver’s License program, further expanding workforce training opportunities for students across the region.
The agreement builds on the longstanding partnership between the two institutions and reflects a shared commitment to providing students with access to high-quality career and technical education. By utilizing space at the Rural Regional Technical Center, Allen Community College can continue growing its CDL training program while helping address workforce demands throughout Southeast Kansas.
College officials said the partnership creates additional opportunities for students interested in entering the transportation industry, a field that continues to face workforce shortages both regionally and nationally.
“We are excited to move forward and appreciate USD 257’s support as we begin utilizing the RRTC for our CDL program,” said Lyvier L Leffler, president of Allen Community College. “This agreement is another example of what can happen when educational partners work together to meet the needs of students and employers. The Rural Regional Technical Center was created to expand access to career and technical education programs and provide students with hands-on learning opportunities aligned with workforce needs. The new agreement positions both institutions to maximize the use of existing facilities while strengthening educational pathways for current and future students.
