Hutchinson CC Sports Information
STERLING, Colorado – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team started off the NJC Volleyball Classic with a pair of losses to Region 9 programs on Friday at the Bank of Colorado Center.
Friday started off with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-14 loss to No. 15 Northeastern Junior College. Casper College then defeated the Blue Dragons 17-25, 25-20, 19-25, 22-25.
Hutchinson is now 8-7 with two matches to be played Saturday in Colorado. Hutchinson plays Iowa Western for the second time this season at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday. The Blue Dragons will close out the Classic with Laramie County at 4:30 p.m. CT.

The Blue Dragons pushed nationally ranked Northeastern hard in the first two sets, holding five-point leads in each set. But the Plainswomen turned the match around with their net defense and from the services line.
Northeastern out-blocked the Blue Dragons 9-3 and had 11 service aces.
The Blue Dragons hit .151 for the match and had four service aces.
Lauren Vasquez and Julia Macedo led the Blue Dragons with nine kills each. Vasquez hit a team-high .209 with nine kills on 24 attacks. Macedo had nine kills on 22 attacks.
Leading hitter Giovanna Monteiro had seven kills on .095 hitting with eight digs and one block assist. Mattie Galliher had five kills and three blocks.
Freshman setter Luisa Richa had 227 assists with an ace serve, block assist and kill. Freshman Ashley Scott had seven digs and Arianna Delgado had six digs.
CASPER RECAP
After splitting the first two sets, Casper rolled in the third set and had a 18-9 lead in the fourth set.
But the Blue Dragons rallied, starting the comeback with a 4-0 run to pull within 18-13. Kills from Vasquez and a perfect tip from Monteiro and then a Casper ball-handling error pulled Hutchinson within 23-21 before the Thunderbirds closed out the match with a kill.
Monteiro had a team-high 15 kills on 52 swings to lead the Blue Dragons. She had her seventh double-double of the season with 12 digs.
Montero had 11 kills. Vasquez finished with nine kills on 29 attacks and Galliher had five kills on 24 attacks with a team-high five total blocks.
Sophomore Clara Oliveira had 18 digs to lead Hutchinson’s back row.
The Blue Dragons hit .106 as a team with 46 kills on 151 attacks. The Dragons had six total blocks with 54 digs and two ace serves.
Casper had eight ace serves and 11 total blocks.
