Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Athletic Department welcomes Alexander Cuevas Vasquez back to the Swedes Baseball program, now as an Assistant Coach. “I want to officially welcome Alexander Cuevas to the Swedes family and baseball program,” said Head Baseball Coach Olan Ortiz. “I am very excited to have him on our staff for years to come. Cuevas brings a lot of passion for the game and with his leadership, experience, and commitment. I am very positive that he will help us take the baseball program to the next level.” Coach Cuevas is quite familiar with the program as he played for the Swedes from 2023 to 2025 and volunteered as a student coach for the 2026 season. As a player, Cuevas earned leadership honors during his senior year while designated hitting for Bethany. As a student coach, Coach Cuevas was involved in many facets of the program, including coaching hitting and infielders, serving as both a first base and third base coach, recruiting, field maintenance, batting practice, and practice planning. Cuevas has also volunteered with the Chicago Cubs, a Major League Baseball team, at the Arizona complex as he earned his Amateur Scouting Certification in the International Baseball School back in June 2022. “Baseball has been part of my life, my passion, and my dream,” said Coach Cuevas Vasquez. “All the games, failures, and wins shaped the individual I am today. I ended my baseball career as a Bethany Swede and will continue that same passion for the game now as a Bethany Assistant Baseball Coach.” Cuevas Vasquez earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management with a minor in Business Management from Bethany College in May 2026. Bethany College (KS) Swedes are located in Lindsborg, Kan. and is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
