NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has released its NJCAA cross country preseason polls with 11 men’s teams either ranked or receiving votes in the first poll of the year.
Of the 11 men’s teams, nine are ranked or receiving votes in the NJCAA Division 1 cross country poll, including two inside the top 10, while the NJCAA Division 2 cross country poll has two KJCCC representatives ranked inside the top 20.
In the NJCAA Division 1 men’s cross country poll, Hutchinson Community College tops all KJCCC schools by coming in ranked third with 223 total points after finishing last year as NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Cross Country National runners-up. The Blue Dragons started their season last week at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic, with HCC runners claiming each of the top three spots in the four-mile race. Just outside the top five and ranked number six is Butler, followed by Colby Community College with the number 12 preseason ranking. Tied for 16th in the preseason poll is Garden City, followed by Cloud County (18th), Dodge City (20th), and Fort Hays Tech Northwest (24th), while Neosho County and Coffeyville are both receiving votes in the poll.
The NJCAA Division 2 men’s cross country poll has Cowley as the highest-ranked team, with the Tigers ranked ninth after receiving 249 total points. Also ranked in the poll from the conference is Allen Community College, with the Red Devils holding the number 19 preseason ranking and receiving 89 total points.
Both Neosho County and Dodge City will be in action on Thursday night, taking part in the Rogers State University Distance After Dark meet in Claremore, Oklahoma. Friday will see teams from the KJCCC compete at the Iowa State University Invitational and Augustana University Meet in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before seeing the weekend conclude on Saturday morning with additional conference schools competing in the Wichita State University JK Gold Classic.
