COLBY, Kan. – A trio of new faces have earned their first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Volleyball Player of the Week honors, with Hutchinson’s Giovanna Monteiro, Colby’s Priscilla Salas Moreno, and Cloud County’s Brooke Lougheed all earning week two honors.
Giovanna Monteiro (Hutchinson) – KJCCC D1 Volleyball Player of the Week
Freshman outside hitter Giovanna Monteiro hit .435 in two victories to lead the Blue Dragon Volleyball team last week. Monteiro averaged 4.71 kills per set on 62 total attacks while adding two service aces and two set assists. Following a 15-kill performance against Eastern Wyoming College, Monteiro added a season-high 18 kills on 30 attack attempts, while adding 16 digs in each match to record double-doubles.
Priscilla Salas Moreno (Colby) – KJCCC D1 Volleyball Setter of the Week
Priscilla Salas Moreno continued her strong start as a Trojan, leading the Colby offense to a 2-2 weekend with three of the four games being against ranked programs, and wins over number 16 New Mexico Military Institute and Laramie County Community College. The freshman started the three-day Cheyenne Invitational with a career-high 61 assists and 15 digs as Colby posted a five-set victory over number 16 NMMI. The Italy native produced 22 assists in a loss to number eight Snow College before adding 33 in a sweep of Laramie County. Salas Moreno wrapped up the weekend with 48 assists in a five-set defeat to number 11-ranked Casper College on Saturday. For the week, Salas Moreno averaged 10.25 assists per set while adding 38 digs and six service aces.
Brooke Lougheed (Cloud County) – KJCCC D1 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Cloud County sophomore libero Brooke Lougheed recorded 73 digs and had a .921 reception percentage last week as the T-Birds picked up two wins at the Wrangler Ranger Roundup Tournament. Opening the week with a 3-2 win over defending NJCAA D3 National Champion Dallas College Eastfield, CCCC added a sweep of Ranger College as part of the weekend. Over the four matches, Lougheed had no fewer than 14 digs and registered seven service aces across the weekend. The T-Birds are 6-3 to begin the 2026 season, matching last year’s season win total and marking the program’s best start since 2023. Lougheed has registered double-digit digs in all nine matches this season.
