LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Sterling College Cross Country started their season at the Spire Sunset Showdown on Friday, Aug. 28. Despite heat, illness and injury, the Warriors had a strong showing with the men finishing sixth as a team.
Camryn Gantt and Aaron Fagan led the charge for the men in the 8K finishing 36th and 37th with times of 28:13.3 and 28:14.7, respectively. Ethan Snider was the third runner to cross the finish line for the Warriors, running a time of 30:48.6 to place 73rd.
Riley Rodgers and Matthew Robinson were the fourth and fifth runners for Sterling, posting times of 31:06.8 and 31:58.2 to place 80th and 85th, respectively. Other runners competing for the Warriors include Ian Chrisler who posted a time of 33:15.4 to finish 91st, Wesley Brantley who finished 97th with a time of 35:48.0 and James Bottoms who ran a time of 38:00.8 to place 102nd.
On the women’s side, the Lady Warriors were short two runners due to illness and heat exhaustion. Lydia Nelson led the women with a time of 21:55.9 to place 34th in the 5K. Claire Miller and Audrey Blake also finished the race with times of 23:10.8 and 28:03.3 to finish 47th and 62nd, respectively.
The running Warriors will be back at it in Springfield, Mo. on Friday, Sept. 11 at the Queen City After Dark hosted by Evangel.
