The No. 7 Barton Community College men’s soccer team made quick work of its early Saturday afternoon contest, rolling to an 11-0 victory over Lamar Community College at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
Sitting most of its starters while giving its reserves extended minutes, Barton struck for six first-half goals before adding five more in the 25-minute second frame as the contest was shortened to 70 minutes due to the large scoring margin over the short-handed Lopes squad.
Barton improves to 4-0 on the season while Lamar remains winless at 0-4. Next up is the Cougars’ toughest test to date, hosting No. 6 Iowa Western Community College on Thursday for a tentative 2:00 p.m. kickoff. Seven different Cougars found the net, with four players scoring twice. Briac Mathez led the scoring with five points, netting two of Barton’s final three goals while adding an assist in between. Luca Madiai opened the scoring 6:15 into the contest, finishing off a nifty Aidan Dunne through ball.
Thirteen minutes later, lightning struck twice in a 41-second span as Guilherme Leuenroth struck an electrifying volley to the far post, completing a sequence started by Madiai’s header leading to Owen Lavery‘s volleyed pass. Leuenroth then rang the bell again with an unassisted strike for his second of the afternoon.
Shun Imai also struck twice in late first-half action, while Helio Martins scored seven minutes before halftime before adding his second eight minutes after the intermission.
Shoma Komata led the distribution list with a playmaker’s hat trick, dishing out all three of his assists in a span of less than seven minutes to help close out the first-half scoring. Francisco Francisco also recorded the first two assists of his collegiate career, setting up Barton’s final two goals of the afternoon.
Cooper Shaw picked up his first collegiate victory in net, working the opening 45 minutes before Reece Renteria registered a pair of saves in second-half action as Lamar used the 25-mile-per-hour wind to generate its best opportunities of the contest.
Overall, the Cougars launched 22 shots in the 70 minutes with 14 landing on frame while Lamar managed just five shots with two on target.
