Freshman Ariadna Zwenger netted a pair of goals to pace the Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team to a 2026 home-opening victory on Friday night at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.
The Blue Dragons won their fifth-consecutive home opener after a 4-1 victory over the NOC-Enid Jets.
Hutchinson earned its first win of the season and improved to 19-3 in home openers in program history. NOC-Enid fell to 0-2. The Blue Dragons will play host to No. 5 Iowa Western next Friday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
Zwenger scored the first multi-goal game of her career with goals in each half. She scored her second and third goals of the season.
Sophomores Olivia Tamaki and Poppy Smith each scored goals. Smith was credited with her fourth career game-winning goal.
Freshman Laerke Muller-Jensen, Tamaki and freshman Annabel Goodman all had assists in the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rylee Loague made four saves and allowed one goal to earn her first victory of the season and fourth of her career.
The Blue Dragons outshot the Jets 33-8, including 14-5 in shots on goal. The Dragons generated 10 corner kicks to NOC-Enid’s one.
Going with a southerly wind of 15 to 20 mph in the first half, the Blue Dragons had nearly 100 percent possession in a dominant first half where they out-shot the Jets 19-0.
The Blue Dragons got going early when Tamaki was fouled inside the penalty area and she converted the penalty kick for a 1-0 Hutchinson lead just 5:02 into the game. The goal was Tamaki’s first of the season and first career penalty kick goal. The Blue Dragons are 51 of 61 all-time in penalty kick attempts.
The Blue Dragons took a 2-0 lead when Smith scored her second of the season on a point-blank shot after Muller-Jensen’s shot was saved by NOC keeper Whitney Zuniga, but the loose rebound fell right to the foot of Smith, who scored her second goal of the season with 23:07 remaining in the first half.
Using one of their seven first-half corner kicks, the Blue Dragons took a 3-0 lead. Instead of delivering her corner attempt into the box, Tamaki played the corner to the top of the box where Zwenger blistered a shot from 22 yards out into the upper right corner for a goal.
The Blue Dragons led 3-0 at halftime.
The Jets started to gain some momentum in the second half going with the south wind. Loague made an impressive diving stop of a Jet shot attempt early in the second half to keep Enid off the scoreboard.
NOC-Enid scored its only goal with 28:15 to play in the second half after a Hutchinson foul left a free kick attempt to the left of Loague from about 30 yards out. The free kick was deflected by Loague off the cross bar, but the rebound fell to Jet forward Milly Carmona, who scored to cut the Dragon lead to 3-1.
The Blue Dragons scored their only second-half goal 9 minutes later when Goodman fed Zwenger at the top of the box. Zwenger then drove to her left and from 10 yards out, shot back across to the lower right corner of the goal for a 4-1 Hutchinson lead with 19:15 to play in regulation time.
After that goal, the Blue Dragons returned to their strong possession game to close out the victory.
Hutchinson is now 4-0 all-time against NOC-Enid.
