The McPherson Fire Department responded to the McPherson Walmart at 205 S. Centennial Drive Saturday evening after receiving a report of a structure fire inside the store. The call came in at approximately 7:13 p.m. on August 29, 2026, with initial reports indicating that a fire had started in an office located within the stock area at the rear of the building.

The McPherson Police Department, McPherson County Sheriff’s Office and McPherson EMS also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters entered the building through the rear of the store and located an office that had sustained minor fire damage. Crews found that one fire sprinkler head had activated and was flowing water. The sprinkler system had successfully extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters confirmed the fire was fully extinguished and placed wedges in the activated sprinkler head to stop the flow of water. While fire damage was limited to the immediate area of the office, water was present on the floor throughout portions of the rear stock area as a result of the sprinkler activation.

The McPherson Fire Department responded with one ladder truck, one engine, two command vehicles and nine personnel. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials said that, at this time, no foul play is suspected.
