Neosho County Community College volleyball made an impressive statement at the OWT Opening Weekend tournament in Rockford, Illinois, finishing the weekend with a 3-1 record against a challenging field that included four nationally ranked opponents.
The Panthers opened the tournament with a dominant 3-0 victory over No. 17 St. Clair County Community College, setting the tone for a successful weekend. Neosho County continued its strong play with a 3-1 win over No. 20 Calhoun Community College, earning its second victory over a ranked opponent.
Neosho County’s toughest battle of the weekend came against No. 8 Pensacola State College. The Panthers pushed Pensacola State to the limit in a five-set match before ultimately falling 3-2. Despite the loss, Neosho County bounced back in impressive fashion to close out the weekend.
In its final match, the Panthers delivered one of their biggest wins of the tournament, sweeping No. 3 Gulf Coast State College, 3-0. The victory capped a 3-1 weekend and gave Neosho County three wins against nationally ranked opponents.
As a team, Neosho County finished the weekend with a .228 hitting percentage, recording 161 kills and 285 digs across the four matches. The numbers reflect an efficient offensive attack paired with a strong defensive effort throughout the tournament.
With victories over No. 17 St. Clair County, No. 20 Calhoun, and No. 3 Gulf Coast State, along with a competitive five-set match against No. 8 Pensacola State, the Panthers showed they can compete with some of the nation’s best.
Neosho County leaves Rockford with a 3-1 overall record, plenty of momentum, and a strong early-season résumé after an opening weekend filled with ranked competition.
