After nearly two years of research by the McPherson County Planning and Zoning Board, members listened to feedback from the community and used a 5-2 vote Monday night to ban data centers in the unincorporated area of McPherson County.

Zoning Board member Glenda Taylor believes they still don’t have a full grasp on all the variables.”There’s too many issues here that I feel like we don’t understand,” she said.

“There is emerging technology and it will change things sometime down the future and in my opinion we’re not there yet.”

Last year, McPherson County commissioners placed a moratorium on emerging technologies like Data Centers, Battery Energy Storage Systems and Hydrogen Energy Transfer Facilities for further study. The move fulfills the board’s obligation to hear input from the community and pass those findings onto the McPherson County Commissioners.
