Cheney High School’s Autry Young captured the AAU Junior Olympic National Championship in the girls 15-16 shot put with a new personal-best throw of 42 feet, 3.5 inches (12.89 meters).
The incoming sophomore already was one of Kansas’ top throwers after finishing state runner-up in Class 3A as a freshman. Her 42-3.5 would have ranked No. 3 among all Kansas high school girls this past spring.
Young also earned AAU Multi-Events All-American honors during this year’s Junior Olympic Games, adding another national accomplishment to an already impressive résumé.
At just 15 years old, Young is quickly establishing herself as one of the premier young track & field event athletes in Kansas and continues to raise the bar on the national stage.
