New research has revealed Kansas’s favorite staycation destinations.

The study by luxury travel advisors The Resorts Collection analyzed Google search volumes over the past 12 months for a list of 100 popular US domestic vacation destinations to find the spots that Kansas searches for most.

Branson comes out on top, with the Missouri destination searched an average of 120 times a month across Kansas. In second place is Key West, with 94 searches a month. Myrtle Beach takes third place, with 72 searches a month. Outer Banks follows in fourth place, with 70 searches a month. In fifth place is Yosemite, with 68 searches a month.

The data also shows Kansas leans toward home soil, with 58.9% of its vacation searches focused on US destinations rather than trips abroad.

Kansas’s top 10 favorite staycation destinations

Rank Destination Location Average monthly searches in Kansas
1 Branson Missouri 120
2 Key West Florida 94
3 Myrtle Beach South Carolina 72
4 Outer Banks North Carolina 70
5 Yosemite California 68
6 Las Vegas Nevada 60
7 Maui Hawaii 56
8 Orlando Florida 52
9 Gulf Shores Alabama 32
10 Destin Florida 30

Florian Pauly, Co-founder of The Resorts Collection, commented on the findings: “Branson’s position at the top isn’t surprising given it’s practically on Kansas’s doorstep, but what’s interesting is how the rest of the list balances convenience with aspiration. You’ve got a neighbouring state destination alongside Maui and Key West, which suggests Kansans are planners who research both quick getaways and bigger trips.”
