Great Bend Bat Cats Fall to Derby Wednesday After Sweeping the Twins on Tuesday

The Great Bend Bat Cats lost to the Derby Twins 10-5 Wednesday night at Panther Field in Derby.

The Great Bend Bat Cats (17-5) swept the Derby Twins Tuesday night at Al Burns Memorial Field. Great Bend won the first game 16-5 and the nightcap 3-2.

The Bat Cats handed the Kansas Cannons of Augusta a 7-4 defeat Friday night and defeated the Cannons 14-4 Sunday afternoon. Both games were played at home.

Great Bend’s Decarlo Delancy was named the Club 1 Fitness Player of the Game for his efforts Sunday.

In the victory over the Cannons on Friday, Great Bend starting pitcher Quentin Medrano surrendered four runs (three earned) and five hits in five innings over with five strikeouts and four walks. Eli Lang and Mason Murphy pitched in relief for the Bat Cats.

Great Bend’s offense had 10 hits. George McCarroll, TJ Shaw Jr. and Kirby Orth each collected two hits. Delancy and Orth drove in two runs.

Orth was named the Bat Cats’ Player of the Game for Friday.

“It was a good win on Great Bend Rec Night (Great Bend Recreation Center) at the ballpark,” said Great Bend coach Roger Ward on the team’s Facebook page.

The Derby Twins play the Hutchinson Monarchs on Thursday at Hobart-Detter Field and host the Monarchs on Friday.
