The Great Bend Bat Cats scored twice in the top of the 11th inning Saturday, and they went on to beat the Hutchinson Monarchs 8-7 in a back-and-forth game at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Monarchs trailed 1-0 after the top of the second inning, but tied it in the bottom of the second, and then scored three times in the third inning. Carter Hepner scored on an error, and Brice Wallar singled home Brady Taylor, giving the Monarchs a 3-1 lead. Wes Baker’s single later scored Wallar, who stole second base and moved to third on an error.

Great Bend chipped away, scoring once in the fourth, twice in the sixth, tying the game, and once more in the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead. But the Monarchs immediately tied it when Wallar’s RBI groundout scored Nash Wray.

Each team scored in the 10th inning, and even after Great Bend scored twice in the 11th, the Monarchs came back when James Dagenhart scored on Carter Hepner’s groundout.

The Monarchs fall to 9-6 and return to Hobart-Detter Field at 6 p.m. Sunday to take on the Newton Rebels.
