January Shooting Death Suspect Charged in Separate Battery Case

A new case has been filed against a rural McPherson man facing voluntary manslaughter charges in the January 31st shooting death of Joshua Soden southwest of Inman.

The new case filed June 9, 2026 by McPherson County Attorney Jennifer Wyatt charges Daniel Hawkinson with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm from an incident that occurred December 20, 2025.

Hawkinson was arrested June 11 by McPherson County Sheriff’s Deputies and posted a $25,000 bond the following day. Schwindt is scheduled for a bond hearing in the battery case June 23.

A preliminary hearing in the manslaughter case has been scheduled for October 13-14. He remains free on a $200,000 bond in that case.
