GREAT BEND, Kan. — Strong communities are built on more than businesses alone—they are built on places where people gather, connect, and build relationships. That vision is at the heart of The Zarah Coffee Shop, Great Bend’s newest locally owned coffee destination.

The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated the opening of The Zarah Coffee Shop, located at 1216 Main Street, with a Ribbon Cutting recognizing the business’s new ownership and grand opening under its new name.

While the event marked an exciting milestone for owner Kimberly Becker and her team, the story behind The Zarah Coffee Shop is about much more than coffee. It is about creating a welcoming community hub in the heart of downtown Great Bend.

Becker’s vision for The Zarah Coffee Shop is to provide a space “Where Coffee and Friends Meet”—a place where residents, visitors, professionals, students, families, retirees, and remote workers can gather, connect, and enjoy meaningful conversations.

“We want people to know this space is being created to meet a gap that I feel exists in our community,” Becker said. “We are honored to serve not only Great Bend, but the surrounding area and beyond. We want every person who walks through our doors to feel valued.”

In addition to specialty coffees, smoothies, protein drinks, Lotus drinks, teas, matcha, Italian sodas, and dirty sodas, The Zarah Coffee Shop offers sandwiches, paninis, salads, breakfast items, and grab-and-go selections. The business also plans to serve as a venue for community gatherings, business meetings, study sessions, celebrations, and social groups.

The opening reflects several priorities outlined in the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce’s Elevate GBK Beyond Today strategic plan, including supporting local business growth, strengthening quality-of-life amenities, and creating spaces that help retain both businesses and residents. Community gathering places play an important role in building relationships, fostering belonging, and enhancing the overall experience of living and working in Barton County.

The Zarah Coffee Shop represents the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to drive investment and innovation throughout the community. Its presence contributes to a vibrant downtown atmosphere while providing residents with another reason to shop local, connect locally, and invest in the community’s future.

“The success of local businesses is directly connected to the success of our community,” said Great Bend Chamber President & CEO Megan Barfield. “Businesses like The Zarah Coffee Shop create experiences that help people feel connected to Great Bend. Those connections strengthen our community and support the long-term goals of retaining residents, attracting visitors, and building a thriving local economy.”

The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce congratulates Kimberly Becker and the entire Zarah Coffee Shop team on this exciting new chapter and welcomes them as an important part of Great Bend’s continued growth and success.
