The 31st Judicial District Nominating Commission will have a videoconference meeting this morning at 11 to discuss how to proceed with filling the Allen County District Magistrate Judge vacancy.
A release from the Office of Judicial Administration late Wednesday afternoon said there was one application submitted to fill the vacancy, from attorney Bret Heim of Moran.
The eight member nominating commission, chaired by non-voting chair and Kansas Supreme Court Justice Larkin Walsh, will make the selection of the new judge, who would serve one year in office and then stand for retention at the next general election, which would be in 2028.
The new magistrate judge would succeed Charles Apt III, who retired June 10th. The 31st district includes Allen, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson counties.
