Jackson Schanuel belted a two-out, three-run double with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday, and the Hutchinson Monarchs won a thriller, 8-6, over the Junction City Brigade in Junction City.
The Monarchs broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning on a Brice Wallar two-run double, but the Brigade answered with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, taking a 6-5 lead.
Jackson Harding led off the ninth inning with a walk. With one out, Harding stole second base, and then Nash Wray was hit by a pitch. James Dagenhart followed with a single to right field, loading the bases.
Then, with two outs, Schanuel belted a 1-1 pitch to center field, clearing the bases and giving the Monarchs the lead again.
The Monarchs won despite being outhit 10-8 and committing three more errors than Junction City.
The Monarchs improved to 8-3, and will return to action Tuesday with a game at the Haysville Aviators. The return game will be Wednesday at Hobart-Detter Field.
