City of Salina Addresses Storm Cleanup Rumors

SHARE NOW

The City of Salina wants to address inaccurate rumors circulating in the community. Claims that City resources are being directed solely toward cleaning up Oakdale Park for the Smoky Hill River Festival instead of helping residents are simply not true.

The only crews working in Oakdale Park have been Parks & Recreation staff, who are responsible for our parks, Salina Arts & Humanities, which manages the Festival, and many volunteers and local businesses who stepped up to help. The Streets Department and Public Works have not been ordered to clean the park ahead of serving residents. Saline County resources have not been used for this effort at all.

Our top priority has been restoring power to everyone in Salina as quickly and safely as possible. Evergy and the visiting utility crews are the primary teams leading that work, and we are grateful for their around-the-clock efforts. The City of Salina Public Works Department will begin a citywide limb pickup on Monday, June 15. In addition, the Salina Municipal Landfill is now accepting residential tree limbs.

We also want to thank Evergy, DSO, and the many crews working 24/7 to restore power to our community, City of Salina employees who are doing their part tirelessly, and the volunteers and neighbors who are helping one another during this difficult time.

We understand frustrations are high, and people are tired. But this is a time for facts, patience, and community support. Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help and make a positive difference
