Cheney’s Reece Tolar Named KABC Class 3A Player of the Year

Cheney High School’s Reece Tolar was named Player of the Year on the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches Class 3A All-State Baseball Team released on Tuesday.

Girard’s Kam Smith was named Pitcher of the Year and Council Grove’s Matt Wilkens was named Coach of the Year.

Tolar and Smith lead the Class 3A First Team as pitchers.

Area players on the First Team are Cheney’s Hunter Cox, middle infielder; and Kaden Eck, designated hitter.

Ellinwood pitcher Cohen Gunn made the Second Team as did Smoky Valley’s Ty Heitschmidt, first base; Southeast of Saline’s Kayson Betrand, middle infielder; and Southeast of Saline’s Tiernan Ptacek, outfielder.

Area players earning honorable mention recognition are Haven’s Preston Inlow, pitcher; Hesston’s Gabe Mowry, third base; and Haven’s Brogan Wray, middle infielder.
