The Hutchinson Monarchs continued their strong start to the 2026 season Wednesday, as they shook off a slow start and beat the Kingman Islanders 12-2 in Kingman.
The game was scoreless after three innings, and then the Monarchs scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Jackson Schanuel RBI single scored Wes Baker for the first run, Brice Waller’s RBI double made it 2-0, and Michael Barham followed with another RBI double.
Kingman fought back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the Monarchs answered with another Waller RBI single in the top of the fifth inning.
The Monarch bats came to life after, as they scored six runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh. The game ended after the seventh inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Waller finished with four hits and three RBIs, and Schanuel had three hits and two RBIs.
Kevyn Velazco pitched four innings in earning the win. He gave up two runs on five hits. Drew Dechant pitched three shutout innings in relief.
The Monarchs improved to 4-0 and play on the road Friday at the Kansas Cannons.
