Malik Carson Wins Class 1A Long jump, First Chase Track Athlete to Win State Title Since 1999

Chase High School sophomore Malik Carson captured the first-place gold medal in the Kansas Class 1A boys long jump with a Kansas Top 50 mark of 22 feet, 1.75 inches at the Kansas State Track and Field Championships at Wichita State University’s Crossland Stadium.

Carson also placed fourth in the 1A boys 100-meter dash (11.16 seconds) and fourth in the 200 (22.57).

Chase tied for 11th place with St. John with 21 points (all scored by Carson).

According to Jacob Bauman and the Chase High School, Chase, KS and CHS Alumni Facebook page, Carson is the first individual track state champion from Chase/Raymond USD 401 since 1999 when Jennifer McCoy won the triple jump.

Staci Lowe (now Staci Keesling) went back to back in javelin in 1991 and 1992. Carolyn Peterson won the shot put in 1979.

Dick Link is the last boys track and field state champion from Chase High School. He won the Kansas Class B state title in the 440-yard dash in 1959.
