The Halstead High School girls 4×100 meter relay team brought home a Class 3A gold medal from the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at Wichita State University’s Crossland Stadium.
The relay team of Piper Schroeder, Mackenzie Ervin, Jordy Schroeder and Annie Williams placed first with a time of 49.57 seconds. They placed second in prelims with a time of 49.9 seconds.
Williams placed ninth in the triple jump (35-1) and 13th in the long jump (16-1.75). Schroeder placed 12th (5-0) in the girls high jump.
The Halstead boys 4×100 relay team of Archer Howard, Dacen Dedman, Edric Zorn and Hudson Hawkins placed fifth (43.91) in the finals after finishing eight in prelims (43.86).
Halstead’s Evan Wiedeman placed fourth in the Kansas Class 3A boys high jump (6-4) and teammate Noah Brantley placed sixth (6-2).
Dedman placed 11th in the boys 100-meter dash prelims (11.22) and Ervin placed 16th in the 1A girls 100-meter dash prelims (16.57).
The Halstead girls tied for 24th place with the 10 points the 4×100 relay team scored. The Halstead boys placed 20th with 12 points.
