Hutchinson Trinity Boys Take 2nd Place at 2A State

The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School boys 4×400-meter relay team helped the Celtics take second place in Class 2A at the Kansas State Track and Field Championships Saturday night at Wichita State University’s Crossland Stadium.

The Celtics foursome of Ambrose Pennycuff, Cameron Kiser, Roberto Guerrero and Alex Guajardo finished first with a time of 3 minutes, 28.07 seconds. Smith Center placed second in the 4×400 race (3:30.59).

Smith Center, on the strength of three late-starting events, placed first with 83 points. The Celtic boys track team placed first with 75 points.

The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School boys 4×800-meter relay team of Ambrose Pennycuff, John Lindstrom, Jacob Lindstrom and Cameron Kiser placed first in Kansas Class 2A competition Saturday at Wichita State with a time of 8 minutes, 4.31 seconds.

Trinity Catholic’s John Lindstrom and Jacob Lindstrom placed second and third in the Kansas Class 2A boys 3200-meter race with times of 9:58.3 and 10:00.79. Jacob Lindstrom placed second in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:29.87 and John Lindstrom placed eighth with a time of 4:38.3.

Trinity senior Isaac Hammersmith placed second in the Class 2A boys triple jump (44-6.25), third in the high jump (6-6) and 12th in the 2A boys long jump (20-0).

Senior Kaid McElgunn placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.03. He was third in the preliminaries (10.95). He did not compete in the 200-meter race.

Kiser placed third in the 2A boys 800-meter runs (2:01.6) and Pennycuff finished seventh (2:03.35).

The Trinity 4×100 relay team placed sixth (44.35) after finishing fourth in the prelims (43.71).

Alex Guajardo placed eighth in the 400-meter finals (51.68) after posting a seventh-place showing in the prelims (51.25). Roberto Guerrero placed 14th in the prelims (52.53).

Trinity’s Ian Rios placed 15th in the 200-meter hurdles prelims (44.18).
