WICHITA, Kan. — The Andale track and field teams capped off their season on Saturday at the Class 4A State Track and Field Championships at Crossland Stadium.
Despite two weather delays, both teams raised their championship trophies just after midnight.
For the Andale boys, it’s the fifth consecutive state championship dating back to 2022. The Indians won their state championship with 79.50 points, 9.5 points ahead of runner-up Buhler.
The Andale girls won their second straight championship, winning with 98 points, 23 ahead of runner-up Buhler/
Rylee Meyer highlighted the meet on the girls side with three state championships in her final high school meet. She won the 100m dash in 11.90, the 200m with a meet record of 24.29 and the 300m hurdles in 43.79.
“It’s really exciting,” Meyer said. “To know I can do that and to show everyone that I’m capable of being one of the fastest girls. I like to know that I showed everyone what I was capable of and can set records at Andale and be one of the fastest to ever do it there.”
To go along with her three golds, Meyer finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18-4.
Kinley Spexarth finished second in the javelin with a throw of 138-0, with Abbey McNeal taking third (137-1). Sydney Waltner was the runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 36-9.50. Spexarth was eighth in the event (34-0.50). The 4x400m relay team of Mayla and Maeleah Spexarth, Rylee Winter and Chloe Eck finished second with a time of 4:05.65.
In the pole vault, Hally Horsch took third with a clearance of 10-6, while Bailey Bretthauer also cleared 10-6, but took seventh. The Lady Indians had two throwers place in the discus, with Paige Brand taking third (126-3) and Reagan Winter was eighth (115-5).
Mayla Spexarth finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 59.62. Maleah Spexarth ran a 47.56, good for fifth in the 300m hurdles. Abbi Winter finished sixth in the 100m hurdles in 16.29.
The 4x100m relay team of Addy Orth, Maleah Spexarth, Rylee Winter and Kinley Spexarth finished sixth in 50.32.
The 4x800m relay team of Ayvah Banda, Abbi Winter, Ali Winter and Kate Eck finished eighth (10:01.16).
Three state champions highlighted the weekend for the Andale boys. The Indians had three medalists in the pole vault, led by Colt Lane, who cleared 16-0 to take first place. Hudson Tankersley was third, clearing 14-6, and Lincoln Rempel was seventh with a clearance of 13-0.
Brayden Spexarth won the javelin throw with a mark of 181-6. Spexarth also finished seventh in the discus (115-10), while Hunter Grimes took third (165-4). Grimes also placed in the javelin, taking fifth with a throw of 173-3.
Brody Kelp won the 300m hurdles in 38.80, while Trey Hommertzheim took sixth (40.39). The 4x100m relay team of Lane Parthemer, Jrayton Dansel, Jayven Dansel, and Kelp finished second with a time of 42.64. Parker Lies finished fifth in the 110m hurdles (15.44).
The 4x800m relay team of Carter Bishop, Toben Easter, Jack Culter and Lane Martin finished fifth in 8:09.88. Roman Lubbers finished sixth in the 1,600m (4:30.07). Cutler finished eighth in the 3,200m run with a time of 10:01.12.
