The Pretty Prairie girls track team placed second and the Hutchinson Central Christian girls finished fourth at the Kansas Class 1A regional Friday at the Kiowa County-Greensburg High School track.
Ashland won the girls regional title with 78 points, edging out Pretty Prairie, which placed second with 75 points.
Bucklin’s girls placed third with 62 points, followed by fourth-place Hutchinson Central Christian with 49, Norwich 45 and Cunningham 40.
The Fairfield girls tied for 18th place with 4 points.
Cunningham won the regional boys title with 90 points, followed by Kiowa County 68, Kiowa South Barber 61, Norwich 48, South Central 48, Spearville 40 and St. John-Hudson 40.
Pretty Prairie’s boys placed 13th with 15 points, Fairfield 14th with 13 points and Hutchinson Central Christian 16th with 10 points. Burrton tied for 25th place with Ashland with 1 point.
Cunningham’s Skyler Thimesch won regional titles in the boys 200-meter dash (21.9 seconds) and pole vault (13 feet, 6 inches). The Wildcats also won the 4×400-meter relay (3:30.28).
Cunningham’s Andrew Kerschen placed second in the javelin (170-8). Liam McGuire placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.38) and fourth in the triple jump (43-3.25).
Kiowa South Barber’s Joshua McKinney won the 1600 (4:46.48 and 10:23.28), Austin Swinger won the 100 hurdles (15.24) and 300 hurdles (40.38) and Garen Cantrell won the 800 (2:02.52).
Chase High School’s Malik Carson won the 100 (10.88) and long jump (22-0.75).
Other boys regional champions were St. John-Hudson’s Jericho Mawhirter, 400 (51.01); Norwich 4×100 relay (44.43); Kiowa County 4×800 relay (8:40.43); South Central’s Hayden Herzer, high jump (6-4); Norwich’s Jayden Benge, triple jump (45-0.5); Kiowa County’s Garrett Kern (47-11.5); South Haven’s Dalton Kelly, discus (147-3); and South Central’s Jack Herd, javelin (194-3).
Hutchinson Central Christian’s Cal Barnett qualified for the Kansas Class 1A state track meet with a second-place finish in the triple jump (44-1).
Fairfield’s Brodie Snodgrass placed third in the long jump (21-6.75) and William McIver was fourth in the 800 (2:08.17).
The Pretty Prairie boys 4×800 relay team qualified for state by placing third (8:52.71). Gunner Young placed fourth in the 400 (53.6) and Carter Stucky was fourth in the javelin (144-1).
In the girls competition, Pretty Prairie’s Lauren Detter brought home gold medals in the 800 (2:23.57) and 1600 (5:25.89). The Pretty Prairie girls also won the 4×800 relay (11:25.44).
Other Pretty Prairie girls qualifying for state were Kayleigh Vogl, second in the triple jump (35-1.75); and Amity White, second in the 3200 (12:40.92) and third in the 1600 (5:39.94). The 4×100 and 4×400 relays both placed third (53.2 and 4:22.56).
Hutchinson Central Christian’s girls posted two gold medals. Harper Newcome won the 400 (1:02.31) and Addi Loudenback placed first in the 300 hurdles (47.87).
Newcome also placed second in the long jump (17-4.5) and third in the 100 (12.89). Townsly Huff is going to state in the javelin after placing third in regional competition (113-1).
Kinsley’s Zaylee Rice brought home first-place gold medals in the long jump (17-5.25) and triple jump (35-8.5).
Kiowa County won the 4×100 relay (51.13) and 4×400 relay (4:19.78). Norwich had two regional winners: Alex Robinson in the 100 (12.61) and Reagan Smith in the discus (121-0).
Ashland struck gold twice: Jayla Walker in the 200 (26.33) and Elianna Galindo in the 3200 (12:39.88).
Bucklin won two gold medals: Isabel Bowman, 100 hurdles (15.78); and Abby Pinkney, pole vault (9-0). Attica’s Laney Vandeveer won the high jump (5-0).
The Cunningham girls were paced by Grace Hageman, who placed third in the long jump (16-8.25); Sage Thimesch, third in pole vault (8-0); and Kyra Morgan, third in shot put (35-10.25) and fourth in discus (109-5).
