Ellinwood Golfers, Luke Heinz Capture 2A Sub-State Titles at Marion

The Ellinwood Eagles captured the team title with a 343 score and Eliinwood golfer Luke Heinz claimed first-place medalist honors with a 6-over-par 78 at the Kansas 2A sub-state Monday at the Marion County Club.

Ellinwood’s Austin Brack placed third with an 85. Hays-Thomas More Prep-Marian’s Chade Drennon and Mason Rosen placed second and fourth with scores of 80 and 85.

Heinz and the Eagles will compete in the Kansas Class 2A state tournament May 26-27 at Winfield’s Quail Ridge Golf Course.

The top three finishing teams at each Kansas regional/sub-state site automatically qualify for the state tournament.

The top five individual players who are not on a qualifying team also advance. All ties for the fifth qualifying spot are included.

TMP placed with a 350 team score and Republic County placed third  at 361 to lock up state tournament berths.

Plainville placed fourth at 382, followed by Hillsboro 385, Solomon 402, Berean Academy 415, Marion 432 and Ell-Saline 463. Herington and Inman did not field enough players to post team scores.

Ellinwood also placed two other golfers in the top 15. Remi Thomas tied for 11th with an 88 and Keaton Lewis tied for 13th with a 92. Austin Shinliver placed 33rd with a 105 score.

Republic County’s Parker Alexander placed fifth with an 85, followed by Colen Hansen, tied for 17th, 95; Carson Struebing, tied for 18th, 95; Manny Motto, tied for 22nd, 98; and Carson Beavers, tied for 41st, 111.

Inman’s top golfer in the tournament was Braden Stutzman, who placed 44th with a 116 score. Teammate Wyatt Jonas placed 56th with a 128 score.
