Bullpups Win Boys 4A Regional Tennis at Home

McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson boys tennis team hosted a 4A Regional this weekend and all six of their competitors qualified for the 4A State meet in Topeka.  McPherson took the team title with 25 points in front of second place Topeka-Hayden with 15.  Rylan Unruh won the regional championship in singles for the Bullpups and Jonas Emery and Mason Eisenbarth took home the doubles title.

Unruh had a first round bye to open the tournament before winning over Anthony Jaeger of Colby 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.  He then went on to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Brek Wahlmeier of Hayden in the semis and battle to a 6-4, 7-5 win in the championship over his Bullpup teammate Cooper Bohme.  Bohme got to the championship by way of a 6-1, 6-1 win over AJ VanCleave of Clay Center in the first round, beat Brandon Sims of Abilene 6-0, 6-1 in the quarters and won 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 over Eli Pfizenmaier of Clay Center in the semis.

In doubles, Emery and Eisenbarth had a first round bye on their way to a dominant tournament.  They beat Cael Casteel and Christian Garcia of Abilene 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stryker Shaw and Levi Haines of Colby in the semis.  In the title match, they won 6-1, 6-2 over William Luke and Brock Reynoldson of Hayden.  Hayden Siemens and Jack Boese also qualified for state in doubles for the Bullpups.  They had a first round bye and beat Patrick Luke and Miles Allphin of Hayden in the quarters 6-0, 6-4 before losing to Luke & Reynoldson of Hayden 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 in the semis.  They went on to a third place finish with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Shawn and Haines of Colby.

The 4A State Tournament will take place in Topeka at Kossover Tennis Center this coming Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16.
