McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School won the 2026 4A State Speech Championship on Saturday, May 2, at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka. The title is the 12th Speech title in school history, and their fifth in the last six years.
McPherson took the maximum of 16 entries to the State Championships. 14 of those entries moved on to the Semifinals, and 10 to the Finals. The team scored a total of 361 points, winning the title by 34 points.
Ellis Frye took the individual title in Poetry, and Ann-Marie Holmes won the individual title in Impromptu Speaking. Holmes also finished 2nd in Informative Speaking, alongside Avery Unruh, who finished 3rd. Dylan Bruce & Celain Worden finished 3rd in Duet Acting.
