The Hutchinson High girls soccer team had a valiant effort on Tuesday, as the Salthawks took perennial Class 5A power Maize South to overtime, but the Mavericks prevailed, 2-1.
The game was knotted 1-1 at halftime and at the end of regulation.
Maize South improved to 9-2 and remained in the mix for the top seed in the Class 5A West Region. Hutchinson fell to 6-4-1 and remained in eighth place in the regional standings.
