Game 1: Smoky Valley 12 Lyons/Sterling 6 (11 innings)
In a marathon game that had been tied at 5-5 since the 5th inning, Smoky Valley exploded for 7 runs, all coming after 2 outs as the Vikings took advantage of 4 walks and 4 timely base hits to grab the lead in the top of the 11th inning. Lyons/Sterling tried to mount a comeback but were limited to only 1 run in the bottom half of the inning. Lyons/Sterling outhit Smoky Valley with 13 hits to 11. Anthony Ventura went 4 for 6 to pace Lyons/Sterling. Ty Heitschmidt, Terron Miller, Marik Anderson, and Kylan Lindquist each had 2 hits for the Vikings.
Game 2: Lyons/Sterling 15 Smoky Valley 5 (5 innings)
Lyons/Sterling earned the split in the second game of the doubleheader as scored they scored in every inning and lead 15-2 going to the top of the 5th. Smoky Valley scored 3 runs in the top of the 5th, but Meyer Anderson came in to close the game with a 3-pitch strikeout to halt the Viking comeback attempt. Zayn Zambo led the Lions with 4 RBI’s going 2 for 2 and also hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly. For Smoky Valley, Ty Heitschmidt also went 2 for 2 and scored 1 run. Porter Anderson picked up the win giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3 and walking 2 batters in his 3 2/3 innings of work.
Lyons/Sterling is now 11-7 on the season while Smoky Valley is 9-9. Lyons will be at home Friday, May 1st as they host the Beloit Trojans. Smoky Valley will be back in action on Thursday against Southeast of Saline.
