Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team played host to the Ottawa University Braves for a doubleheader that clinch a playoff berth for the Swedes.
GAME 1 – SWEDES 0, BRAVES 5
This was an ugly one for Bethany as they committed five errors while only tallying three hits. In the circle, MacKenzie Yoder drew her seventh start of the season lasting 2.2 innings while striking out one batter. Dylann Baker entered in relief for the final 4.1 innings amassing seven strikeouts.
GAME 2 – SWEDES 5, BRAVES 8
The backend of the doubleheader started off great for the Swedes as they were up 2-1 after the first inning due to a Kalee Aguilar single that scored Addilyn Miller and an error to later on score Aguilar. Bethany turned it on again in the third inning sparked by a Marissa Wells homerun over left-center field. The Swedes would follow that up with an Alex Udy RBI single to score Ulissa Rivas and a RBI double via Shaylee Keslar to score Udy to put the Swedes up 5-2. Unfortunately, the Brave would score one run every inning from the third to the sixth and three in the seventh to take this one 8-5.
Eight Swedes recorded a hit with Ulissa Rivas being the lone Swedes to have two. Addilyn Miller hit her first triple of the season.
Jordyn Stelzig got her fourteenth start of the season lasting 5.2 innings while striking out three Braves. Dylann Baker entered in relief for the final 1.1 innings. Baker would strike out one batter.
Up Next…
It all comes down to this! One series left for the Swedes and they need just one win to make it to the KCAC Softball Championships. That series will not come easy as it is against the current number one team in the conference, the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles… oh, and it is at their place. Bethany sits just one spot behind a tie for eighth place and with a win can join that tie and take the three-way tiebreaker due to a 3-1 record against York and Saint Mary. The doubleheader is set for Thursday, April 23 with Game One set to begin at 2:00 PM in Bartlesville, Okla.
