McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School Softball split its first quad of the season on Tuesday, April 21, defeating Emporia 15-0 in their first game, before falling to Derby 12-2.
Ashlyn Schroeder’s dominant performance helped earn McPherson the win against Emporia, throwing all four innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out three. Offensively, she had a team-high 3 hits on 4 at-bats. Pera Bauer, Carmin Pavlovich, and Kynedi Huggard had two hits apiece, while Rylie Whitfield hit the game’s lone home run, ending with 3 RBI’s.
Game two was all Derby, as the Panthers struck out seven Bullpup batters and capitalized on 10 hits and two McPherson errors. Carmin Pavlovich and Annalis Gross contributed the only hits of the game, but Gross’s was a home run.
McPherson moves to 13-5 on the season. They will host their second quad at the Grant Sports Complex on Friday, April 24. They will begin against Wamego at 4:00 p.m., in a rematch of last season’s marathon 18-inning game, before facing either Southeast of Saline or El Dorado.
