Bluejay Men Close Out 2026 Season, Drop Close Match to Friends

HILLSBORO, Kan. — The Tabor College men’s tennis team came up just short in a tightly contested KCAC matchup on April 18, falling 4-3 to Friends (Kan.) despite a strong showing in singles play.

DOUBLES PLAY
The Falcons claimed the early momentum by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.

At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Joao Sa and Rayane Sanhaji fell to Friends’ Gabriel Gomes and Cristobal Fuentes, 6-1.

At No. 2 doubles, Bruno Cardoso and Peter Jost were defeated by Rodrigo Torres and Trey Lacy, 6-1.

Tabor responded at No. 3 doubles, where Joao Franchi and Isaac Yourdon earned a 6-4 victory over Yves Ikuno and Jacob Bush to prevent the sweep.

Friends carried a 1-0 lead into singles competition.

SINGLES PLAY
Tabor battled back in singles, splitting the six matches and nearly completing the comeback.

At No. 1 singles, Rayane Sanhaji was defeated by Cristobal Fuentes, 6-4, 6-4.

At No. 2, Bruno Cardoso fell to Gabriel Gomes, 6-1, 6-2.

At No. 3, Joao Sa was defeated by Rodrigo Torres, 6-1, 6-2.

Trailing 4-0, the Bluejays mounted a strong push in the bottom half of the lineup.

At No. 4 singles, Peter Jost earned a hard-fought three-set victory over Trey Lacy, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

At No. 5, Joao Franchi delivered a comeback win against Yves Ikuno, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6.

At No. 6, Isaac Yourdon secured another three-set victory, defeating Seth Ogden 7-5, 4-6, 7-4.

MATCH SUMMARY

  • Singles: Tied 3-3

Despite dropping the doubles point, Tabor showed resilience with three straight singles victories to close the match. The Bluejays’ effort in the lower half of the lineup highlighted their depth, but Friends’ sweep of the top three singles positions ultimately proved decisive.
