SALINA , Kan. – Sterling College women’s tennis fell to Kansas Wesleyan University in rescheduled match that took place on Thursday, April 16. Danna Arroyo was able to secure the sole point for the Lady Warriors as the Coyotes won 6-1.
Sterling started slow, losing the doubles point in a 3-0 sweep. Danna Arroyo and Hannah Giordanelli battled in No. 1 doubles against Hayden Bellamy and Rylee Frye but came up short 7-5. In the No. 2 doubles match, Greta Fankhauser and Jessica Gautreau faced Corina Salas and Alivia Sherer in a closely contested match but fell 6-4.
Arroyo tried to turn things around for the Lady Warriors in singles play, starting Sterling off with a solid 6-0, 6-2 win over Bellamy in the No. 1 singles match. However, Sterling couldn’t keep the momentum going. In No. 2 singles, Giordanelli lost to Frye, 6-2, 6-5. Fankhauser and Elysa Apen lost their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 with Fankhauser taking on Salas in the No. 3 singles match and Apen taking on Sherer in the No. 4 singles match. Gautreau rounded finished off the day with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Isabella Gutierrez-Myers in No. 5 singles play.
The Lady Warriors (4-12, 2-6) will finish out the regular season against Evangel University (5-11, 4-2) in Sterling, Kan. on Saturday, April 18. The day will also include Senior Day Celebrations.
