LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sterling College defeated Avila University on Saturday, April 11 coming away with a 5-2 victory.
The Warriors got things started by securing the doubles point. Rubem Bogomoltz and Adam King defeated Hayden Carrillo and Tristan Houchin in the No. 2 doubles match 6-2 while Pedro Felipoff and Ibrahim Curtis-Kaduma secured the point with a 6-4 victory over Ben Drinkwater and Benden Honn in the No. 3 douples match. In No. 1 doubles play. Feranado Vargas and Kazuki Fukushima battled against Daniel Lozano and Axel Scott but came up short, 6-4.
Sterling continued to keep things rolling with wins in the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 singles matches. Vargas defeated Lozano in the No. 2 singles match going 6-3, 6-2. In No. 3 singles play, King dominated Houchin, 6-0, 6-1. In No. 3 singles, Fukushima battled against Carillo winning the first set 6-2, losing the second set 7-5 and secure the win with a 1-0 win in the tiebreaker. Bogomoltz secured the team victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Honn in No. 5 singles play.
Felipoff found himself in a battle in No. 1 singles play, losing to Scott, 6-0, 7-6 while Curtis-Kaduma finished off the day with a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Drinkwater in the No. 6 singles match.
