PRATT, Kan. – McPherson High School Track & Field participated in the Pratt Varsity Invitational on Friday, April 10. The Boys team placed 2nd in the meet, thanks to setting two new meet records and winning three events. The Girls team won two events to finish in 5th.
Caden Wenderott set the new meet record, winning the Discus event with a mark of 160′ 4″. He also placed 2nd in the Shot Put. Caleb Muehler set the meet record in the 1600m Run with a 4:29.83 mark, winning the event. The 4×800 Relay team (Kayden Friesen, Tripp Pelzel, Daniel Bowen, Caleb Muehler) won as well.
The Bullpup Boys were runners-up in two other events. Kinnick Anderson finished 2nd in the Triple Jump and Brody Hoffman placed 2nd in the 200m Dash. Hoffman also finished 3rd in the 100m Dash. The 4×100 Relay team (Dylan Cabezas, Brody Hoffman, Kinnick Anderson, Jayren Stutzman) and 4×400 Relay team (Dane Becker, Tripp Pelzel, Dan Bowen, Kayden Friesen) each placed 3rd.
“Our Boys team is starting to figure out just how competitive they can be as a team,” head coach John Montgomery said. “This group has the potential to do great things over the course of the season.”
The Girls team finished in 5th behind powerhouses Hays, Bishop Carroll, Scott City, and Garden Plain. The team won two field events. Ellie Herrera won the High Jump and Karsen Burris won the Javelin. Andi Buschbom also placed 2nd in the Long Jump.
“This small but mighty group of girls has a chance to make some real noise in 4A come league and regional time,” Montgomery said.
