Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team played host to the No. 13-ranked Evangel University Valor.
GAME 1: SWEDES 0, VALOR 8
Game One did not go so well for the Swedes as they faced-off against a two-time KCAC Pitcher of the Year. Bethany was only able to muster two hits highlighted by a double for Abigail Taylor.
MacKenzie Yoder drew the start lasting 3.1 innings before Dylann Baker subbed in in relief for the final five outs. Yoder recorded two strikeouts in her outing.
GAME 2: SWEDES 8, VALOR 7
Game Two started off similar as Game One, but went a lot different later on. In the bottom of the second inning, down 4-0, Abigail Taylor launched her first homerun of her Bethany career over left field to score Alex Udy, Emmaline Senecaut, and herself to cut the deficit down to just one. Evangel would score two more runs to go into the bottom of the seventh up 6-3.
It seems as though the Swedes like the pressure of their backs against the wall as the Swedes would capitalize on the Valor’s mistakes to score Addilyn Miller and Senecaut. Later on in the inning, Ulissa Rivas would single home Taylor to knot it at 6-6 before the inning ended.
In extras, Evangel would score one via a sacrifice fly before Dylann Baker would sit down the last batter of the eight. In the bottom half of the inning, Avery Newmiller would lay down a beautiful sacrifice bunt moving Kalee Aguilar, who started the inning on second, over to third. Marissa Wells would then tattoo a softball for a no-doubter over the centerfield fence to walk it off 8-7.
Ulissa Rivas tallied two hits during the contest, while Marissa Wells hit her second homerun of the season. Kalee Aguilar and Avery Newmiller teamed up for a double play in the fifth.
Jordyn Stelzig got the start and continued her hot streak lasting 6.0 innings. Amia Alexander-Sims stepped in for 1.1 innings before Dylann Baker entered for the final two outs in the eighth. Baker would earn the win for her seventh this year.
