STERLING, Kan. – Sterling College took on Tabor College on Thursday, April 11 and came away with a 6-1 victory over the Bluejays.
The Warriors started strong winning the doubles point. Fernando Vargas and Kazuki Fukushima started with a 7-5 win over Rayane Sanhaji and Joao Sa in the No. 1 doubles match. Sterling kept it rolling in No. 2 doubles with Adam King and Rubem Bogomoltz securing the point with a 6-1 win over Peter Jost and Collin Branam. Ibrahim Curtis-Kaduma and Cassidy Kelly battled against Joao Franchi and Isaac Yourdon but came up short, 6-0, in the No. 3 doubles match.
Sterling kept the momentum going in singles play with Felipoff getting things started with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sanhaji in No. 1 singles play. In the No. 2 singles match, Vargas found himself in a battle against Sa, winning the first set 6-3, losing the second set 7-6, before winning the tiebreaker set 1-0.
King continued to bring success for the Warriors with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Jost in No. 3 singles. Fukushima also had a dominant performance in No. 4 singles play, with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Franchi. In No. 5 singles, Bogomoltz battled in No. 5 singles play overpowering Yourdon with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Kelly rounded out the field with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Branam in the No. 6 singles match.
The Warriors will look to continue this momentum against Avila University on Saturday, April 11 in Lawrence, Kan. with play to take place after the women’s matches starting at 1 p.m.
