Sterling Boys Tennis Takes Third at Hillsboro Invitational, Hutchinson Trinity Finishes Eighth

The Sterling High School boys tennis team placed third at the Hillsboro Invitational Thursday and the Hutchinson Trinity Catholic boys finished eighth.

Hoisington won the team title with 57 points, followed by Smoky Valley with 56 points, Sterling 51, Conway Springs 47, Classical School of Wichita 22, Towanda-Circle 16, Hillsboro 16 and Hutchinson Trinity 15.

Sterling junior Jace Darnauer captured the No. 1 singles title and freshman Lathem Kizzar placed third in No. 2 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of juniors Ben Bierstedt and Trace DeShon placed fourth. The No. 2 doubles team of sophomores Hayden Dobson and James McGlynn placed fourth.

Hutchinson Trinity senior Ethan Harvey placed fifth at No.1 singles. The Celtics’ No. 1 doubles team of senior Sam Pennycuff and junior Vincent Wuertz placed fifth.

Trinity freshman Elias Pennycuff placed eighth at No. 2 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of ninth graders David Bargdill and Kazuma Tsukada placed eighth.

Trinity plays at the Hutchinson Invitational next Thursday. Sterling hosts a quadrangular on Tuesday and competes in the Ellsworth Invitational next Thursday.
