School Records, Personal Bests at Friends University Spring Invitational

WICHITA, Kan. – Sterling College competed at the Friends University Spring Invitational on Thursday & Friday, April 2-3. Despite changes to the schedule and rain delays, the Warriors still had a strong showing with new personal bests, including Blake Robertson who broke his own school record in the hammer throw and had a personal best performance in the discus.

In the throws, Blake Robertson broke his own school record in the hammer throw, set last weekend at the Emporia State Spring Open. This week he threw of 50.41m (164-6) to finish fifth. Also throwing personal bests in the hammer throw was Calen WenteBrayden Kermode and Keaton Miller who finished 17th, 18th and 23rd with marks of 40.75m (133-8), 40.64m (133-4) and 37.04 (121-6), respectively.

Robertson and Miller also had personal best marks on the discus. Robertson placed fourth with a throw of 45.67m (149-10) while Miller placed 17th with a throw of 37.00m (121-5). Also competing in the discus was Wente and Kermode who placed ninth and 24th with throws of 41.40m (135-10) and 33.15m (108-9), respectively.

In the shot put, Miller threw another personal best mark of 12.90m (42-4) to finish 18th, Robertson placed 10th in the event with a throw of 14.04m (46-0.75) and Kermode threw a 9.14m (30-00) to place 39th. James Dickerman and Tod Mastin rounded out the throws in the javelin. Dickerman had a personal best performance with a throw of 51.48m (168-11) to finish fifth while Mastin finished 16th with a mark of 36.72m (120-6).

In the jumps, Charles Jones led the way with a victory in the triple jump with a mark of 15.68m (51-5.5) and finished second in the with a jump of 6.86m (22-6.25). In the high jump, Cedric Wilson and Jones both finished eighth with a clearance of 1.93m (6-4).

On the track, David Sullivan represented the Warriors in the sprints, running a 23.29 in the 200m dash to finish 49th. He improved his placing in the 400m dash with a time of 52.98 to place 36th. Also competing in the 400m dash was Sean Watson and Ian Chrisler who finished 24th and 39th with times of 51.31 and 53.15, respectfully. Chrisler also ran in the 800m run where he finished 36th with a time of 2:10.63.

In the 10,000m run, Camyrn Gantt had an NCCAA qualifying time of 35:14.07 to place seventh in the event while Jace Gaston finished ninth with a time of 37:41.70.

Nazar Haydon rounded out the competition for the Warriors in the decathlon where he finished ninth with a total of 4,303 points.

For the women, Briana Croisant had a strong showing in the Lady Warriors in the throws with personal best performances in the javelin and the hammer throw. She finished 11th in the javelin with a mark of 27.80m (91-2) and placed 22nd in the hammer with a heave of 32.29m (105-11).

Belle Barnett continues to be impressive in the high jump, finishing second with a clearance of 1.67m (5-5.75), and Sheridan Nguyen debuted in the long jump with a jump of 4.10m (13-5.5) to finish 18th.

On the track, Claire Miller and Audrey Blake had personal bests in the 1500m run. Miller finished 28th with a time of 5:27.01 and Blake finished 50th with a time of 6:34.57. Janie Perico also competed in the event where she ran a time of 5:44.73 to finish 40th.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, April 11 at the Tabor College Invitational in Hillsboro, Kan.
