Morris’ program record book throw headlines No. 5 Barton women’s strong showing at SPC Alumni Elite Invitational

The No. 5 Barton Community College women’s track and field team continued its early outdoor season progression Friday, turning in a well-rounded performance at the SPC Alumni Elite Invitational hosted by South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.

Behind a blend of sprint dominance, hurdle precision, and throwing power, the Cougars produced five national qualifying performances and six personal bests, highlighted by a program top-10 mark from freshman Shamoyea Morris in the discus.

Setting the tone on the track, Sethunya Majama sprinted to victory in the 100 meters with a national qualifying 11.88, while Asharria Ulett led a 1-2 Barton finish in the 100m hurdles at 13.61 with Camoy Binger close behind at 13.77, both securing national marks.

Thomphang Basele‘s runner-up finish in 54.57 led the quarter-mile group, additionally highlighted by Narissa McPherson‘s personal best 55.70 to place third and punch her national ticket. Natasha Fox added another qualifying performance, placing fourth in the 400m hurdles at 1:04.84.

In the field events, Shamoyea Morris delivered the meet’s signature performance, capturing the discus title with a personal best throw of 49.86m to move into 8th place all-time in program history. The Cougars dominated the event with Zadie Mackey placing second (44.59m) and Shamoye Morris third (43.89m), completing the sweep.

The trio continued its presence in the hammer throw with another strong showing, as Shamoye Morris recorded a personal best 44.88m to earn a national qualifier, while Mackey added a personal best 12.64m in the shot put.

Makiya Mosley also improved her personal best in the long jump (5.35m) to place third.

Closing out the meet, Barton’s 4x400m relay squad of Maya Maldonado, Fox, Takeila Williams, and McPherson clocked a national qualifying time of 3:51.56 in finishing runner-up, while the “B” unit posted a 4:15.06 third place finish.

The Cougars will continue their outdoor campaign Thursday, April 9, traveling to Canyon, Texas, for the Jo Meaker Classic & Multis.
